February 26th, 2011
We are looking forward to a great 2011 Season at the THSRC.
We appreciate your membership and your Board has already been working hard to make sure this is a memorable season. There will be some classic events, some new events, and a big event from the past we are bringing back.
We are lucky to have Lindsay Duke return as our pool manager. She is filling her staff and making a couple of modifications to enhance the rotations of responsibility. We bid farewell to a couple of our past Swim and Dive Coaches, Aaron Dorfman and Debbie Gallagher, and want to thank them for their many years of service. Leslie Hamilton has asked to come back in an Assistant Swim Coach role this year. The good news is with a change like this - we can bring in some new energy to lead our teams. We are fortunate to have great candidates and will email more information once all of those positions have been solidified.
The Board felt it was important to keep the price of your dues the same as it was the last couple of years. This means we will need to be more efficient and cost effective to keep the same “value” our members deserve. A big help to accomplish this is for you to Volunteer for our Tennis, Social and Swim Events. Please reach out to these Committee Chairmen during sign-ups or through email. Your involvement is critical to our success this year. These events are fun to work and most of them take minimal time. We really need your support on this.
Here are some highlights from the different Committees:
Tennis: Brian Clark – bcehi@fuse.net
Jason Grannen has agreed to come back and will be taking on additional responsibilities. He still will be in charge of lessons, and the coveted Round Robins, but will also run the tennis social events. Some events seemed to have gotten stale and the attendance was down from previous years. Brian and Jason are putting together a couple of high energy Mixed Double Formats to replace these. Please send Brian your ideas for events you would like to see. More to come.
Social: Rich Johnson – wrichjohnson@gmail.com
Rich is excited to bring back to the line up of our social events the renowned “Chili Cook-Off”. This was a great past event and was the talk of the town. We hope this year will be a springboard to make this an annual event again. There is already a small group of volunteers but the more on this the better (date TBD – early season). We are listening – so any ideas you have please send to Rich and consider volunteering to make it happen.
Swim/Dive Teams: Sue Richardson – susanmrichardson@earthlink.net
Sue has been a swim Mom for years and is bringing that knowledge to the Board. Swim Champs is behind us and we are hosting the Dive Champs this year. It is a much smaller event but it gives us a chance to show off our Club to the Community. All Swimmers and Divers please write this down - May 14th (Saturday) will be the day to sign up from 10 AM-12PM. Kastaway will be there for suit fitting and ordering as well.
Here are a couple of housekeeping items and tips:
· Website, Website, Website (www.turpinswimclub.org) Please check the website for the calendar of events throughout the year.
· All members have access to the Member Only section. The default for receiving emails is for everyone to get Swim/Dive, Tennis, Social and General information
o You can modify your profile to receive only one or all of them.
o Please reach out to Membership Chair, Carole Cattran, if you need information on this: mattandcarolecat@aol.com
· Our current way of “checking-in” is antiquated and hard to enforce. Please email me with any suggestions or recommendations on any other alternatives for the Board to consider.
· There is a “Suggestion Box” on the website. The Board meets once a month and we will commit to read all communication sent through this site. Please be detailed and let us know the best way to respond back to you.
Our hope is you are excited as we are for 2011. The snow has melted – the skies will be clearing - and soon we will be hearing the excited voices of children splashing and playing at our Club.
Sincerely,
Will Hammelrath
